Sandeep Kumar Vs Toshihiko Era at Spaceplus Bangkok for the WBA Asia South Flyweight Title

24 Feb Bangkok – In an intense boxing match, top ranked Indian boxer Sandeep Kumar, emerged victorious against Toshiko Era of Japan last evening at Spaceplus Club Bangkok. The bout, held for the WBA Asia South Title in the Flyweight division, went on for 10 rounds, with Sandeep Kumar being declared the winner by a unanimous decision by the three judges.

Md Azahar from CSM Promotions who was in Sandeep’s corner for the fight said, “Despite being the underdog in the match, Sandeep started off strong and dominated the early rounds. However, he began to tire in the middle rounds, allowing his opponent to make a comeback. But Sandeep didn’t give up and came back with a vengeance in the last three rounds”.

The judges’ scores reflected the closely contested nature of the bout, with two judges scoring the fight 96-94 in favour of Sandeep Kumar, and the third judge scoring it 97-93. The victory was a hard-fought one for Sandeep, who had to dig deep and show his resilience to come out on top.

Speaking to the IBC office over the phone after the match, Sandeep expressed his joy and gratitude for the support he received from his team. “This victory is not just mine but of all the people who supported me and believed in me,” he said. “It was a tough fight, but I’m glad I was able to come out on top. I want to thank my coach Sanjay Kumar at Virat Boxing Club and my team for all their hard work and support”.

It is worth noting that Sandeep Kumar’s victory is even more impressive given the circumstances leading up to the fight. Sandeep had only 25 days to prepare for the bout, which is a remarkably short amount of time for a professional boxer to prepare for a title fight. This meant that Sandeep had to put in extra effort and work tirelessly to ensure he was physically and mentally ready for the challenge.

Additionally, this was the first time that Sandeep was fighting a 10 round contest, which is a significant step up from the six-round contests he had previously competed in. The extra rounds require a higher level of stamina and endurance, which can be challenging for even the most experienced boxers.

Despite these challenges, Sandeep rose to the occasion and showed incredible perseverance and determination. He put in hours of hard work and training leading up to the fight, which paid off in the end. His victory is a testament to his talent and dedication to the sport of boxing.

In a post-match interview, Sandeep credited his coaches at Virat Boxing Club and his management team at CSM Promotions for helping him prepare for the fight in such a short amount of time. He also expressed his gratitude to Supanat Chanram and Brico Santig of Highland promotions for giving him the opportunity to showcase his skills on such a big stage.
